In Life is a Deck of Cards, Avijit Dutta reflects on life as a game shaped by chance, choice, risk, and participation. Whether one is the king, queen, joker, or ace, destiny can shift in an instant—what matters is how one plays the game.

The exhibition used the fifty-four cards of a deck as metaphors for the different phases of human life—from childhood innocence to the complexities of adulthood, tracing emotional, social, and personal transitions that define our shared journeys. Each card symbolised a moment, a challenge, or a turning point that collectively forms the narrative of life.

Set within a contemporary context, the works drew from nostalgia and memory, often referencing vintage photographs and Victorian frames, evoking a sense of legacy and the passage of time. The exhibition also reflected on fading human values, memory, and storytelling—suggesting that while mediums change, the human story continues to unfold.

The solo exhibition was held at Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad, in 2016.
