Masquerade – an endless drama

In Masquerade, Avijit Dutta reflects on the world as an endless theatrical stage where identities are performed and truth often dissolves into projection. Driven by desire, ambition, love, and power, individuals become characters navigating the fragile space between authenticity and expectation.

The works explores the tension between creative freedom and imposed narratives, sincerity and performance, reality and illusion. As societal pressures shape expression, art too becomes part of this masquerade—no longer just observing the drama, but participating in it.

Presented by Kalakriti Art Gallery at the India Art Fair 2023, the series positions the artist himself as a character within the unfolding play, where the canvas becomes a stage for this quiet, endless drama.
